#2 Chris Cresswell: Create the life you want so you can do the creative work you want
Welcome to blog post #2 for The Insightful Creative.
I had a wonderful conversation on August 28 with composer/sound artist, singer/songwriter, guitarist, educator, and radio host, Chris Cresswell.
At one point Chris said:
“I think I focus on the idea of how do I set up my life to do the creative work I want to create…”
I said, wait, go back….say that again!
And YES! Spot on.
Chris mentioned a few ways he’s set up his life to do what he wants to do creatively:
-He took on a non-music job to help get down debt, which helped him later to be able to work as a freelancer.
-He and his partner had a shift in focus about finances, allowing for more opportunities to pursue travel, new opportunities, etc.
-He listens to a wide range of music, feels that ideas come from everywhere. He believes that genres don’t exist anymore and so he’s open to having inspiration coming in from as many places as possible.
Some advice to others, or to a younger version of himself:
Take risks, have courage, composers can create what speaks to them, take long-view of life, and the crown jewel (at least for me!)…
create the life you want so you can do the creative work you want
