"striking, meticulous flute playing"
(Take Effect)

”stunning…one of my favorite flutists”
(JacobTV, composer)

Artist Statement:

I believe music’s emotional qualities and rich sound world can build empathy and compassion, connecting us with each other (and also with ourselves) as artists and people.

As a performer I tend to gravitate to playing music by living composers where I am asked to explore an even wider color palette and different sound qualities.

I feel the most powerful contribution when I work with visionary people to create extraordinary new work that makes an impactful artistic statement.

I am interested in supporting the next generation of musicians and artists by creating space for discovery to grow into the musician or artist they want to be.

Laura has released four solo recordings. Her debut solo recording ("rewards repeat hearings") features music of JacobTV, with two works dedicated to her. Her recent release, Discrete Structures, (“stunning interpretive playing”) with pianist Julia Lin, features a newly commissioned work by Marc Mellits as part of a consortium in which Laura was lead commissioner. Laura has also recorded works by Sean William Calhoun, Claude Debussy, Kari Telstad Sundet, and Chloe Upshaw. Her performances and recordings have been broadcast on the radio programs Performance Today and New Sounds, among others.

Laura's recent book Modal Flute Warmup (“enthusiastically recommended”) is published with Conway Publications and is sold internationally.
